Southwest District RCMPThe Southwest District RCMP is a provincial policing unit responsible for specialized services across Southwest BC, including BC Highway Patrol, the Emergency Response Team, and the Air 5 Police Helicopter.

The Southwest District RCMP serves as the provincial policing arm within South-West BC, focusing on specialized enforcement and support operations. Units under this division include BC Highway Patrol, the Emergency Response Team (ERT), and Air 5, our dedicated helicopter unit. While local policing falls to local detachments, the Southwest District RCMP handles high-risk, high-mobility, and province-wide operations across the district.

BC Highway Patrol (BCHP)
BCHP is responsible for traffic enforcement and road safety along Chiliad Valley’s major routes, including Highway 1 and Highway 13. Their focus is on stopping high-risk driving behaviours like impaired, distracted, or aggressive driving.

Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (BCHP: ICARS)
The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service investigates serious collisions involving death or injury. Using drones, 3D scanning, and expert analysis, ICARS reconstructs crash scenes and supports major crime investigations with precise, technical diagrams.

Emergency Response Team (ERT)
ERT responds to high-risk situations involving firearms or threats beyond the scope of local detachments. Team members are elite, tactically trained, and ready to deploy day or night across any terrain. When multiple incidents occur, responses are prioritized based on risk and urgency.

Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU)
EDU responds to explosive threats and hazardous materials across both urban and remote areas. These specialized officers use advanced equipment to safely dispose of bombs, suspicious devices, and chemical threats. EDU also supports investigations and educates partners on handling explosive and CBRN incidents.

Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IDENT)
IDENT provides advanced forensic support to detachments. From crime scene photography to fingerprint and DNA analysis, they help investigators uncover critical evidence using modern forensic techniques.

Please note that General Duty and operational policing members are not based out of this location, and no general-duty response services are dispatched from this office.
